La Buena Onda is a high quality hostel in the middle of Matagalpa. The city with 120 000 inhabitants in the north of Nicaragua provides the second highest amount to the gross domestic product after the capital of Managua. The city with another 80 000 residents in the immediate vicinity generates this basically by coffee farming and its export. The coffee is being cultivated in the surrounding hills which offer a wide range of excursions like hiking, whitewater-rafting, or visiting a coffee plantation. Matagalpa itself is a very vibrant city and all important buildings, bars, restaurants, and shops in the centre are within walking distance to La Buena Onda. Stijn from the Netherlands and his Nicaraguan wife Tamara run the hostel successfully and manage it very professionally. The expansion to a second buliding increased the total capacity to 46 guests. Wifi in all rooms, water, and coffee at the bar are available for free around the clock. A big sofa, a television and DVDs are available in the common room. Furthermore, there is a small library with multilingual books. A part of the kitchen may also be used prior appointment. Besides the Spanish-speaking staff most of the time there is also someone available who speaks English. Cash payment as well as credit cards of Mastercard and Visa are accepted on-site. As many guests enjoy a wide variety of different tours commencing in the early mornings, the hostel takes care to keep the peace at night at 10 pm. A hostel´s own gift shop is located directly next door. Long-term car parks are not available. Although, there is a guarded car park 3 streets away for a price of 3 € per night, whereas short-term parking lots are found straight in front of the hostel.

Reservations and deposits 

A succesful reservation needs the payment of the first night. 50% of the total amount has to be paid if a reservation comprises more than 3 nights or more than 3 bedrooms.

All cancellations up to 7 days before check in will be refunded by 95%. 5% are non refundable handling fees. The first night will be charged and the following nights will be cancelled if the cancellation takes place less than 7 days before check in or in case of no show. Cancelled reservations for more than 3 nights or for more than 3 bedrooms attract a cancellation fee of 50 % of the total price, as well in case of no show or early departure and the rest of the nights will be cancelled.
